William Burns born 1834-part Choctaw??

I have heard that my great grandfather William Burns may have been part-Choctaw or possibly it was Cherokee-
He married Julia Worden in LaSalle County Illinois in 1864 and they lived in Mercer County Mo. and Benton County Mo.
ANY help appreciated!!!!!!
