The town of Ackerman today is located in Sections 19, 20, 29, & 30 in the southwestern portion of Township 17 North, Range 11 East. Ackerman did not exist in 1870, as the town was not established until the railroad was constructed in the 1880s. The residents of that area will be found in the 1870 census recorded in the 16 pages listed as Township 17 Range 11. The census taker apparently began recording in the eastern part of the township. Bethlehem Baptist Church and Cemetery are located in Section 15, almost in the center of the township.
