From census records, I've identified a likely candidate for the father of James Nixon, born in MS 1846-1850, married to Nancy Catherine Crawford in Itawamba county, 1873.
There is a John Nixon with a 3 year old James Nixon as one of his children. John was reported to have been born in Georgia, his wife Mary (C.) reported to have been born in South Carolina. In 1860 Choctaw county, Mississippi, census list for Nickson[sic] is
