I am working on a book based on documents left by the Peel family of Marshall and Chickasaw Counties. At present the book is in the form of an historical novel but will be as factual as I can possibly make it. I am interested in records, stories, photographs, etc. from anyone whose ancestors -- white or black, free or slave -- were in those counties in the years 1860-1870. If your ancestor was a slave, I very much want to hear your story. They are the silent ones, and yet so very important. Please contact me (webmouse @ verizon.net) with whatever you have. I can not promise that every bit of information will be used, but I will certainly appreciate your contribution and list you in the book's credits. Please understand that this is NOT a book about the Civil War. There are plenty of those out there already. This is a book about how the war affected a particular community and its inter-connected families. I will be presenting as many sides of the history as I can. Here is a partial list of surnames: (Chickasaw Co) PEEL, ABBOTT, TAPLEY, GUNN, GREENE, KIDD, MCDOWELL, FOX (Marshall Co)PEEL, ALEXANDER, GOVAN, HARDIN, BOWEN, MATTHEWS, YARBROUGH, JENKINS, PRYOR, COCKE, PURDEN, LAWMAN Notify Administrator about this message?
