Thanks for responding.

This is the first I have heard that Jesse was married prior to moving to Carroll Co., but the timeline works (perhaps he was 18 years old at first marriage). I wondered about a prior marriage, after he married in Carroll Co. Sept. 30, 1858 at the age of 31, which did seem kind of late. He was born 1827, and he and father and younger siblings moved to Yalobusha Co. around the mid 40's. I have a census list somewhere and I will check these dates again. Where did your information on Jesse's 1st marriage come from?

We know that Jesse's father, James W. Gibson married Rachel Bowers in Wilson Co. Tn. in May, 1830. She would not be Jesse's mother, however. We have a family list of children, and there were 3 girls older than Jesse, born between 1823 and 1825, so I believe that James W. had 3 wives in his lifetime. His first wife's name or family history is unknown, but she would have been the mother of the three girls and Jesse; second wife was Rachel. His last wife was Mary Ann Skinner, a widow. He returned to Yalobusha by 1870 where he lived next door to his stepson, David Skinner.

James W. is not listed in the 1880 census, so is presumed to have died in the mid 1870's. Jesse continued to live in Carroll Co. I haven't followed all of Jesse's children, but he did have sons James Estill Gibson and Jesse, Jr.

James E. is buried at Mission Baptist Church, near the Montgomery/Carroll Co. line. Jesse married Jennie Doyle and they are buried at Moorhead, Ms. Cem.

I am looking for information on James W.'s father and mother (who have been quite elusive.) His grandparents were James H. Gibson and Sarah Caperton.

Do you have a family connection to these Gibsons? Would love to hear from you. Thanks, Martha
