harris is a difficult name to research. i am starting with mariah harris. she was originally a knox (she was a slave and her parents were knoxes). she and benjamin walker had several children (he was the slave owner) named george, samuel, nelson, and daniel. after the war, she and her sons moved to amite county, mississippi and she married jim harris, thus the name harris. jim died before 1880. i am trying to trace her back in time. if you can assist, i look forward to hearing from you.
