Rienzi - James R. Leatherwood, 80, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. Mr. Leatherwood was a native of Alcorn County and a retired rural carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, where he was a past Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator and District Deputy. Active in the community, he was an avid golfer, scoring a hole in one at the Pickwick Golf Course. He also taught golf etiquette at Shiloh Ridge Golf Course. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Services were Aug. 30 at the St. James Catholic Church. Burial with military honors was in the Corinth National Cemetery. McPeters Funeral Directors of Corinth was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors included his wife, Maxine Leatherwood of Rienzi; three sons, James amp"Larryamp" Leatherwood (Barbara) of Prospect, Tenn., Mike Leatherwood and Daniel Leatherwood of Rienzi; two brothers, Marcus Leatherwood and Richard Leatherwood of Corinth; a sister, Mary Alice Nash of Nashville, Ark.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mattie Leatherwood, and his first wife and mother of his children, Stella Leatherwood.
