Eva Gene Kersh Christian, 81, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Corinth. She was born Aug. 18, 1926, in Brandon to John and Eva Lindsey Kersh. She graduated from Brandon High School and Belhaven College, where she earned a bachelor of music degree. She was a charter member of Mu Phi Epsilon music sorority. As choral director at Tupelo High School, she organized the first choral department and the first District I choral festival in the area. Later, she organized the choral departments at Northeast Mississippi Community College and Itawamba Community College. In 1952, the family moved to Forest, where she taught music in the Forest City Separate School System for eight years. She later taught choral music at Bass and Solomon Jr. High Schools in Greenville. She retired after teaching 20.5 years in Mississippi.

Through the years, she was an active member of the United Methodist Church as a choir member. She traveled with the Greenville United Methodist Youth Tour Choir as their accompanist. An avid vocalist, she was a member of the Greenville Community Chorus, performed at the Wynn-Richards Playhouse, and performed with the Greenville Symphony. She was also an active member of the Mississippi Federated Women's Club, the Clinton Music Club and the James Foster chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an active member of the Clinton community for 18 years.

Services were at Lakewood Memorial Chapel. Lakewood Funeral Home of Clinton was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors included her children, Linda Gene Jackson (Dr. William) of Corinth, Hubert Thomas Christian Jr. (Kathy) of Clinton and Howard Lewis Christian (Cindy) of Hollandale; her grandchildren, Josh Christian (Jamie), Lauren Taylor (Virgil), Mary Kathryn Christian, Candace Marlar (Josh), Lindsey Jackson, Morgan Jackson, Marlana Peeples (Matt), Ashleigh Tolliver and Hope Christian; her great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert T. Christian Sr.; her parents; a brother, John Jr.; and a sister, Sara Emily.
