MOYER, ELIZABETH - IN; 1822-1880+
I am trying to find an Elizabeth MOYER born in Indiana and her ancestors. Deduction from census indicates that she was born about 1822 in IN. In 1837, she married James MATTOX in Vigo Co. IN. About 1856, they moved to Clay Co., IN. After James' death, she married Benjamin COPPOCK in Clay Co., IN in 1875. The last census data on Elizabeth was the 1880 Clay Co census as Benjamin’s wife. A web search of the 1820 census reveals that there were only 4 Moyer as head of household in Indiana. Two of those resided in Lawrence Co., IN - Andrew and John B. The other 2 resided in Orange Co., IN - Moses and J.F. The same search in 1830 results in 13 Moyer in the state as head of household. In Lawrence Co., there were none. In Orange Co., there were 6 - Frederick, George, John, John B., Matthias, and Moses. I have included the page numbers for those census below. The closeness of the location of the households in the 1830 census indicates to me that they all were related. I also surmise from the data in those census that the J.F of 1820 was the Frederick of the 1830 census. The 1830 census of Orange Co., contains 3 households with a girl between 5 and 10 years. Those households are John, Moses and Frederick.
In 1840, web search shows only 3 Moyer in the vicinity- David and John in Orange Co and George in Vermillion Co.These census have not yet been examined.
Does any one have information on these families? I would be glad to share descendancy information if you are interested.
