David: After reading your tantalising message of November 21 about the possibility of the original immigrant to the USA hailing from Bromsgrove, Worcester, England instead of London as per conventional wisdom, I had a professional researcher follow up your hunch. She is Ms. Susan Campbell and she did the research on the Bromsgrove records in Worcester. She managed to decypher handwritten documents that I certainly could never have read (she sent me copies). Sure enough, as you stated, there was a John Moye and also a Dorothy Wheeler in Bromsgrove in the early 1600s. However, Ms. Campbell found that John Moye from Bromsgrove, son of Edward Moye, married Jane Tasker in Worcester City on May 1, 1634. They had a child baptised in Bromsgrove in 1636 so they must have returned to Bromsgrove to live. The only Dorothy Wheeler of Bromsgrove that she found around that time was the daughter of William Wheeler, not Richard Wheeler. I have asked her to go back again to the christenings of May 4, 1611 to try to find Richard’s Dorothy. Ms. Campbell scanned the records from 1629 to 1636 but did not find any evidence of a Moye/Wheeler marriage. Her preliminary conclusion so far is that the existence of a John Moye and a Dorothy Wheeler in Bromsgrove at the same time is a coincidence and she recommends that we return to London to continue the search as Richard Wheeler’s will firmly roots him and his family in London. She has suggested the name of a London researcher and I am taking steps to contact that person. I will keep you advised of progress in both Worcester and London, though don’t expect a speedy response as there is a lengthy lead time for these professional searches. Kind regards. John G. Moye
