Hello Rob,
the expert on the Mowthorpe family is Ces Mowthorpe from Hunmanby nr Filey in Yorkshire. (Also related to my late husband whose gt gt grandmother was a Mowthorpe). The first record I have is Matthew Mowthorpe from Wold Newton who married Mary Dawson but I think Ces has gone further back. There was John Mowthorpe who married Ann Brown from Gristhorpe and who was entered in the parish reg. as John & Ann Moletrap. There was Lower Mowthorpe & upper Mowthorpe in the Wolds.
I know Ces is online but don't know his e-mail address I'm afraid. He's the only Mowthorpe in the phone book in Hunmanby.
best wishes
