There are two Willis Mounce individuals that are often confused. One is born 1800. The other is born 1806 South Carolina.

Willis B. Mounce, born about 1806 S. Carolina married Rebecca J, who was born 1815 S. Carolina. They had 5 children:

William
Elizabeth J
Abasalom
Mahalia
Felix

Their son, William Mounce, changed his name after the Civil War to THOMAS. There are varying accounts of WHY he did this. Some people say he was a carpetbagger, that became unpopular and he changed his name. I am not sure.
