Their two differences are on CDYa and CDYb which are the two fastest mutating markers tested by FTDNA in their 67 marker test. Their earliest ancestor is Jacob Mohler who was born about 1769-1771, married Susanna Sowers, and died 1826-1829.
Different genealogists at different times have believed that this Jacob is either the son of Jacob Mohler (born 1736) and grandson of Heinrich (Henry) Mohler born 1711. The lineage of this Heinrich/Henry includes M-1, M-3 and M-10.
OR
That Jacob of M-14 is the son of Jacob born 1744 or 1745
grandson of Ludwig Mohler Jr. born about 1726
great-grandson of Ludwig Mohler 1696.
M-14 hopes to possibly determine which is correct through DNA. It is known through people that tested with DNA Heritage (which no longer does testing) that the Lineage I modal also matches descendants of Heinrich (Henry) Mohler (born about 1700; died 1769) and the above Ludwig Mohler, both of Ephrata, Lancaster Co., PA.Unfortunately DNA Heritage did not test CDYa and CDYb, so it is unknown if these mutations may be shared by the Ephrata lines.
The Moler-Moulder DNA Project would love to have proved descendants of either Henry or Ludwig of the Ephrata lines test, and also other sons of Jacob (born 1736) son of Henry (born 1711) of Maryland.
