Hi all! I believe we have the wrong Hannah listed for George and Dorcas. There are two Hannahs in the 1850 census for Tremont Maine. Hannah daughter of George and Dorcas Murphy is too old to be our Hannah who married James Moulden/ Moulding 1850 Tremont ME George Murphy 30 carpenter Dorcas 42 Benjamin 24 fisherman Hannah M. 22 (born about 1828) George 19 Rueben 17 Isabelle 13 Isaac 11 John 9 Dorcas A 6 William 3 Benjamin Otis 19 Another Hannah Murphy age 13 in 1850 Tremont is living with James M and Emerline Butler. Her birth date about 1837 fits with our Hannah. I believe this Hannah was the daughter of Joshua and Lois or Louise Dow. But have no proof. 1840 Black island census Joshua Murphy 122xxx1 12xxx1 1 male under 5 2 males under 10 2 males under 15 Joshua under 50 1 female under 5 2 females under 10 Lois under 40 Joshua is missing in 1850 and perhaps dead, and if I am correct Lois may be remarried to a George Butler. Is it a coincidence that our Hannah is living with the Butler family? LDS shows one daughter for Joshua and Lois named Rhoda A. The following are my suspects for Joshua's children. There is a Mary Murphy age 15 in 1850 Mt Desert Lewis Freeman household. There is a Rhoda age 11 and Edward Murphy age 22 in 1850 Mt Desert living in the Benjamin Richardson household And This may be our Lois Dow/Murphy/Butler on Black Island in 1850 George Butler 52 Louis Butler 50 (Lois? Louise??) George Butler 6 Albion Butler 4 Pheba Murphy age 8 Our Hannah who married James Moulding or Moulden coincidently had daughters who share these names. Mary,Rhoda and Phebe. Also Rhoda had a daughter named Lizzie Myra. Hannah had daughters Lizzie and Myra. There is also a Joshua Murphy in 1870 Tremont age 39 who has a daughter Rhoda and son William. perhaps he too is a son of Joshua. What does everyone else think? Anyone know?
