Adam Mott of LI or Adam Mott of RI

I am so confused. I found a connection to Adam Mott(1596-1661) who came on the Defence 1635 and settled in Portsmouth, RI.
However as I searched out his line and compared it to Adam Mott(1623) who came on, I think, the Bevis, and settled on Long Island, NY, I began to discover duplicate wives.
1) Mary Stillwell (1656-1724) m. Adam3 Mott (1649-1719) of the Rhode Island line. Or did she?
2)Jane Hulet/Hewlett (1625-1665) m. Adam2 Mott (1620-1693) of Essex, England, to Rhode Island. Or did she?

Both lines seem well searched and documented but someone somewhere has had to mix up the Adams of these two women and I am stuck. Please help.
