I doing some research on the Mosley families of Wayne Co, GA, I think I may have solved a mystery. At least I didn't see this scenario anywhere. I want to thank Todd Beckam for pointing me into the right direction. The story of the Wayne Co, GA Mosleys, revovles around first cousins John B. Mosley (1821-1864), son of William Btantley Mosley Jr (1800-1873) and Matthew Mosley (1838-1910), son of Seaborn Mosley (1805-1866) and their marriages to a women named Lavenia (1830-aft 1900). Below are my notes on these two familes that I will refer. Some Mosley researchers have associated the Mary R. (F17) in the 1860 census with Matthew Mosley(M24), to the Lavenia (F38) with Matthew Mosley (M35) in the 1870 census. They have assumed that the wives were one and the same person and that she might be a Collins. I think that is not correct. I believe that Mary R. Mosley, of 1860, is Mary Rosa Mosley, the daughter of Seaborn Mosley and sister of Matthew Mosley. I have searched the 1850 census for a Mary R. or Lavenia Collins that might be this person and I did find find an Elvina Collins (F8) in Tattnall Co, GA, daughter of a widow Mrs Collins (F29). But Todd Beckum tells me that he knows that she married Edward D. Cowart. But I believe I have found the answer. From my notes below, you can see that there is a marriage recorded in Alachua Co, FL of a marriage of a John Moseley and a Vyne Sylivant in 1846. In 1846, the far northeast section of Alachua Co became part of Clay Co in 1858, where the Mosleys and Sullivan(t)s migrated to after the Civil War. I cannot say why they were down there in 1846 and then returned to Montgomery Co, GA, but I do have other ancestors that migrated back and forth between GA and FL and back again. You can see where John B. and Lavinia (Viney) Mosley went from Alachua Co, FL to Montgomery Co, GA to Wayne Co, GA. John B. Mosley died in Savannah, GA in 1864 and left wife Lavinia a widow with orphans James (M10), Angelina (F7), Cuyler (5) in Wayne Co, GA. Then in 1870, we find Matthew and Lavenia Mosley still in Wayne Co, GA, with orphans Huler(Cuyler?) (M13), James (M19) and Angeline (F16) Mosley. Plus a Pinky Sulivan (F65) is living next door. Could this be Lavinia's mother? In 1880, we find M. Mosely (M44) and L. Mosely (F46) still in Jesup Co, GA. In 1900, Louvenia Mosely (F73) is still in Wayne Co, GA, but husband Mathew Mosley (M62) appears in Clay Co, with his brother William Mosley. In 1880, Francis Marion Mosley (1843-aft 1910), younger brother of Matthew Mosley, appears in Wayne Co, GA, with wife Angelina (1857-aft 1888), as a close neighbor to his brother Matthew Mosley. Francis appears to have remained in Wayne Co, GA through the 1910 census. What do you think? Bob 1834: A John Sillivant, illegitimate son of Brantley Mosley Jr., had his name changed to John Mosley.
