Clayton Tribune, (Rabun Co. GA) Thursday, May 7, 1936, Page 2:
“A Birthday Celebration---A happy and exceedingly enjoyable occasion was a birthday celebration given in honor of Mrs. E.H. Williams at her home on last Sunday.
Mrs. Williams, a pioneer citizen of this section, has now passed her 82nd birthday, most of which have been spent in this community, and we feel sure that Wolf Creek community has been bettered by having her, for to know “Aunt Hala” as she is lovingly called is to love her.
The Sunday School went in a body to the home and others from farther away were already gathered there. Including the family there were 128 present at the time the dinner was served. It was a very bountiful dinner spread picnic fashion on the long porch because showers prevented having it in the shade of the large trees on the lawn.
Those present were: Mr. & Mrs. Sylvia Holcomb and six children; Mr. & Mrs. J.W. Smith and six children; Mr. & Mrs. D.J. Smith and two children; Mr. & Mrs. J.V. Page and son, Olin; Mr. & Mrs. V.A. Wall and son, Jesse; Mr. & Mrs. Horace Page and five children; Mr. & Mrs. W.J. Stubblefield and nine children; Mr. & Mrs. Frank Smith and three sons; Mr. & Mrs. M.H. Smith and nine children; Messrs Paul and Harold McKay; Miss Alta McKay; Mr. & Mrs. Arlis Turpin; Mrs. N.U. Turpin and five children; Mr. & Mrs. Elvin Roberts and baby; Mr. & Mrs. Johnnie Deal and small daughter; Mr. & Mrs. Lamar Beck and baby; Mr. & Mrs. A.W. Ashe and two daughters; Mr. & Mrs. B.A. Cannon and three sons; Mr. & Mrs. R.B. Stancil and baby; Mrs. Ancie Stancil, who is the only living first cousin of Mrs. Williams; Miss Cleo Smith; Mr. & Mrs. Virgil Ramey and two children; Miss Margaret Cannon; Mr. & Mrs. W.R. Williams and four children’ Mrs. E.H. Williams; Misses Amanda and Elizabeth Williams; Messrs Charlie and Albert Williams; Messrs Clint James, Maurice Watts and Omer Sisk; Misses Willie Grace and Ziller Deal; Mrs. J.C. Deal and baby and Mr. Nathan Addis.”
Clayton Tribune, (Rabun Co. GA) Thursday, March 14, 1940, Page 1:
“Mrs. E.H. Williams, age 85, wife of the late E.H. Williams, died at her home at Wolf Creek, Monday night, March 11, after an illness of several months.
The deceased leaves seven children, Messrs Rufus, Charlie and Albert Williams; Misses Manda and Lizzie Williams, Mrs. B.A. Cannon of Clayton and Mrs. N.U. Turpin of Clarkesville.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Wolf Creek. Interment was in the Wolf Creek Cemetery.”
Clayton Tribune, (Rabun Co. GA) Thursday, March 28, 1940, Page 3:
“Mrs. Margarette Mahala Williams, 85 years of age, wife of the late Ephriam Henry Williams, and only child of the late Presley and Sallie Mosley, died at her home on Wolf Creek, March 11. Although she had been in declining health for several years, she was not confined to her bed until March 8, when she had a heart attack. She was born near Mountain Rest, S.C., May 2, 1854. At the age of two years she, with her parents, moved to the present home place where she lived the remainder of her life.
She became a member of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church at an early age and took an active part in all church work while she was physically able and afterward she never lost interest in the church and the well being of the community as a whole.
Being a pioneer in the weaving craft, she taught the art of weaving to the students of the craft class in the Tallulah Falls Industrial School in the earlier years of its history.
Surviving are seven children: Misses Amanda and Elizabeth Williams; Mrs. B.A. Cannon; Mrs. N.U. Turpin; Messrs Rufus, Albert and Charlie Williams. There are 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral services was held in the home at 3 o’clock Wednesday, March 13. Rev. John Carpenter of the Wolf Creek Church conducted the service. The interment was in the Wolf Creek Cemetery.
We are glad indeed to have known her and have her for a friend. Her friends were numbered by those who knew her. She was never too tired or too busy to lend a helping hand to those who were in need of help or in distress.
She lived a beautiful life and her light will ever shine in this community where she lived.
There is a vacant place in the home and the church that can never be filled, but we truly know that our loss is Heaven’s eternal gain. We humbly bow in the submission to the will of our Heavenly Father who giveth and taketh away.
