Luther Moses, Cleveland, Ohio (1811-1895) and C. Elihu Moses (d. 1814)
Posted by: Christopher Busta-Peck (ID *****4384) Date: November 05, 2011 at 08:01:35
  of 1595

I'm spearheading an effort to preserve the house built by a prominent Cleveland shipbuilder, Luther Moses. (You can read about the house here: http://www.clevelandareahistory.com/search/label/Luther%20Moses) The Gothic revival structure, built in 1854, is the finest extant pre-Civil War house on the east side of Cleveland.

I'm trying to locate any documentation of the Moses family in Cleveland - especially any photos that might either provide insights into the family or that might show some detail of this house.

I'll share the basics of the family history here - it can be found in detail in "Historical sketches of John Moses, of Plymouth", pages 173-176) (http://books.google.com/books?id=BXktAAAAYAAJ&dq=%22luther%20moses%22%20early&pg=PA173#v=snippet&q=cleveland&f=false)

Luther Moses (1811, Euclid (or West Farmington), Ohio, died December 24, 1895, San Diego, California) Married 1st Arvilla Stockman, who died May 25, 1872, 2nd June 30, 1873, Georgiana Caley, who died December, 1894. They had no children.

Luther Moses was the son of C. Elihu Moses (usually just "Elihu Moses"), a captain under Perry in the War of 1812. He died December 22, 1814, of fever on shipboard while en route Detroit to Cleveland; married at Burlington, Connecticut, Elizabeth Talbot, and settled in Farmington, Ohio, in 1804. Their children (Luther Moses' siblings) were:
Ardolissa (1799-1857)
Charles (1800-1877)
Elizabeth (1803-1846)
Elihu (1806-1861)
Philo P. (1809-1886)
Roxana (1813-1877)
Luther (1811-1895)

I can provide more detail about the family and descendents, if that would be useful. I appreciate any help you may be able to provide.
