Researchers of South Carolina?GA Moselys, HELP!
I am trying to find the parents of two lines of Mozley desc. whose DNA match my Mozley line most closely. They have written history of lineage thus:
1) John Turner Moseley who was born in 1783 in VA and married Elizabeth Lafoy in 1804 in Fanklin Co., GA. He moved to Washington Co., AL. His children are Milledge O.; Nancy; Sallie; Ritha; John Womack; Flood; Daniel Coleman; Amelia "Millie".
2) David Moseley who was born 1791 in Franklin Co., GA and shows up in the 1820 census of Pendleton, SC where he had marrried Eliza Barton in 1818. His children are; Bailey Barton; Sarah Elizabeth; Enoch Berry; Emmeline; James Oberon; Frances; Early Anderson; Thomas H.; Dorcas Jane; Henry F.; Eliza.
David Mozley who married Elizabeth Terrell was in Pendleton Co., SC in 1800 and 1810. He was in Franklin Co., GA by about 1813 or so and was in the 1820 census living there. We believe that he and Elizabeth married in SC about 1797, becassue of Terrell documentation of wills and such. I do not believe that he is the father of David Moseley. But in 1800, David had two males born 1775-1785 who we assumed were Terrell relatives of Elizabeth, but could possibly be Mozley relatives as well. Was David living in the household of David Mozley? Is he the son of an unknown son of Edward and Mary McDaniel Mozley?
In Wilkes Co., GA, where my ancestors were by 1791, there is this:
Early Records of Georgia vol1 and 2
MINUTES OF INFERIOR COURT--1817-1824
(No Index)
Page 11--William H. Vadon appointed guardian of John Mosely, son of Polly Mosely.
Since Page 13 is for July 7, 1817 and Page 5 is for May 5, 1817, we can assume that William H. Vadon was appointed guardian of John Mosely sometime between May and July of 1817.
William H. Vaden was the husband of Catherine Mozley, daughter of Edward and Mary McDaniel Mozley. So, we have always assumed that Polly Mosely was a relative. But this John does NOT appear to be John Turner Moseley who was born in VA in 1783. In 1817, he would have been 34, not a child. So, is this John Mosely even related? or is he the son of an unknown Mozley child? What happened to him?
There is also the unknown desc. of Walter Mozley who married Sarah Garth. Walter is the unproven brother of Edward Mozley who married Mary McDaniel. Oral history of Walter and Edward being brothers and one other record establish that they probably were closely related. All the male children of Walter are lost to research. Walter and most of his female desc. remained in the Richmond, VA area until the late 1900s. The females had a family tradition of using the Moseley spelling and using that as a middle name. Are there Mozley/Moseley desc. of Walter out there???
Is there anyone out there who has come across anything to point me in the right direction? HELP!
Thank you so much,
Mona Herrin
