Hello Mortons,
I have reading a lot of your messages and queries on Mortons. There seems to be a misconception with some of you that the Mortons who emigrated to the early American Colonies were the sons of Robert de Mortaine, an English nobleman. This is just not true; what is true is that the Count Robert de Mortaine was a Norman-French nobleman, who was the legitimate half brother of William the Conquerer.
Robert came with his brother in 1066 to England. William of course, was illegitimate son of the King of France and a daughter of a tanner.
Yes, our Mortons are descended from Count Robert, after many centuries have passed. This line descends directly back to Charlemaine and is Royal indeed.
Sincerely, Bonnie Simpson Valko
