The James Morton "WILL' that you referred to was the son of my GGGGG Grandfather, John Morton Sr, who lived south of Statesville, NC. This James was never married and died while probably in his thirties. The nephew, "James" mentioned was my GGG Grandfather,1789-1836, who migrated to MO and is buried at Pocahontas, MO near my home. He married Eliza Eloisa Steele,1796-1871, dau of Ninian, who as a widower, also came to Cape Girardeau County.
John Morton Jr, 1795-1865, younger brother of James, married Mary Freeland and maintained the plantation. John Morton Sr married Agnes Graham, dau of James Graham. He died in 1803 and she in 1802.Many Morton descendants live in Cape Girardeau County but only a few remain in Iredell County, NC.
