A biography of Charles D. Morton, farmer & stockman of Flathead Valley, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 858 & 859. Charles D. Morton was born, Mar 1862, son of Gabriel L. and Emily (Hardison) Morton. In 1880, he moved west to Colorado, where he stayed for seven years before coming to the Flathead Valley in Montana, homesteading 160 acres (increased to 320 acres). Charles married Miss Mary Newhan, daughter of James and Harriet Newhan. She came to Montana at the time of the Custer massacre. Morton children: James, Ruth (Mrs. Henry E. Slick), Charles, Joel, John, Paul, Thomas. Charles D. Morton died age 78, 13 Oct 1940, Flathead County, MT -- Daily Inter Lake, Kalispell, MT, 19 Oct 1940 Obituary: Charles Dee Morton Charles D. Morton was born in Hickory, Tennessee, in 1862, where he grew up with his three brothers and two sisters. Two of his brothers, James and John, were ordained ministers of Christ's Church in Tennessee. His parents, Gabriel and Emily Morton , passed away when Mr. Morton was twelve years old. He joined the Christian Church when he was nineteem. Notify Administrator about this message?
