St. Charles (Illinois) Chronicle, 12 December 1906:
William Morter, one of the oldest conductors in the employ of the A.E. & C electric railway, whose wife was a St. Charles girl, Miss Turner, has been given a position in the Elgin offices of the company. Mr. Morter was taken to the hospital a few weeks ago and underwent an operation for appendicitis, from which he has now fully recovered. The physicians who had his case in charge, however, advised him not to go back on the road, and in consequences he was given a position in the office by the company as a reward for years of faithful service. Mr. Morter will be an assistant to the cashier, Mr. White , and will be on duty at night when the conductors turn in their receipts for the day. As his duties will keep him at the office late into the night after the regular cars have stopped running, the company has agreed to furnish him a special car to take him home.
I am not related to nor researching this family and have no further information.
