I, too, am confused. My family tree (Moore) had been researched back to John Moore, who came to Sudbury, MA on the ship "Planter" in 1642.First wife's name unknown, second wife's name Elizabeth Whale. He died Jan. 6, 1673-4.When I tried to go back further, I found entry on familysearch.org listing his father as Joseph MORSE, b. 1586 - d. 1646, who married (1) Ann Jaspar in 1605, (2) Dorothy Barber (or Burnap) abt. 1609, (3) Elizabeth UNKNOWN in 1616.Supposedly, John Moore is son from first marriage.Son Joseph, b. 1612 and daughter Hannah, b. 1614 from 2nd. I can only assume that when they came to US the name changed from Morse to Moore (or some similar spelling).
Some research info for you:"Some Descendants of John Moore of Sudbury, Massachusetts" by Ethel Stanwood Bolton; "The Moore Family Register", Vol. 2, Published by Ophelia Wade;Registry of Deeds, Worcester County, Mass (Vol. 104, page 83); "Bond's Genealogies and History of Watertown", reprinted 1978.
