Morrall or Morrell from West Riding York
On my great grandfather's marriage certificate (married 1883 in Melbourne, Australia) he gave his name as James Morrall, aged 35 (ie born 1848), to parents William and Emma Ann, in Huddersfield/Bradford UK.
On the birth of his children, however, his stated birth year varied as follows - 1840, 1844, and 1848. James died in 1899, in Menindee, Australia. The year James came to Australia is also unclear.
The variation is his personal details suggest that maybe he was keen not to be traced. This would certainly explain why he and his wife Sarah chose to live and raise their family in outback NSW.
Perhaps his real name was Morrell (different spelling), and lhe fact that he named his first male child Richard, suggest to me that perhaps his father's name was actually Richard, not William. He named his second male child James.
Bradford comes up regularly as his birth place, so perhaps that is correct.
I am in a real dilema. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.
Regards ... Ken
