If the Jewish Encyclopedia article online about the Sephardic Reform movement in America is correct, my great-great-great-great-great grandfather, was Isaac Arbib. His family was said to have fled the Iberian Peninsula, presumably in 1492, and settled in Morocco, where Isaac became lapidary to the fez of Morocco. Around the time of his death, the family had to flee Morocco, and his son, Solomon HARBY, eventually settled in Charleston, SC. His son Isaac was a founder of the Jewish Reform movement. Does anyone have any history of the Arbib family in Morocco? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Early Harby family history can be found in Guy Zola's book, Isaac Harby of Charleston, 1788-1828: Jewish Reformer and Intellectual (2002).
