My ancestry descends from Cornelia van Salee's husband, Willem van Borckelloo, sometimes called Johnson, because English ears heard "Johnson" instead of Jans. Our branch of the family called themselves van Barkelo, then Barricklow, among other mutations of the name. I believe Charles Hoppen wrote in the "Washington-McClain Ancestry," that Willem married Cornelia van Salee in 1658, and moved to Long Island to be near her father's home in Gravesend. Cornelia's mother, Grietje, died in 1666, as did Cornelia, I believe. Mother and daughter died the same year. I wonder if they died of the same cause. Willem married Lizabeth Clausen in 1666, and I am descended from their son, Coenraed, born in 1680. I was interested in your saying that Cornelia was born on board a ship in 1638, as was one of her sisters. Could it be that Greitje, her mother, made more than one trip to New Amsterdam? Do you have any other information about the van Salee family, and their spouses, children, and children's children? Do you know where they lived? Are there any family stories that you know of?
