Hey Carol,
I know about the ship Brooklyn association and I know Elijah was excommunicated from the Mormon church ca. 1846, for "Licentious behaviour". I have heard about his father being Frederick and not born in New York, so I wondered if this is a different Frederick Pell? These Pell's were from New York so I would think Elijah's father was too. I guess I'll have to check out the local LDS library and see if they can help.
