Morlan originally a Native American?

I am hoping someone can put this rumor to rest one way or the other. An Iowa researcher (now deceased, Larry Alan) referenced an article in the Nashville Tennessean magazine from June 22, 1952 which tells of how the "Moreland" name came about from a man who left an indian tribe. Does anyone know anything about this? Has anyone seen the article?
thank you
