I just recently did some work on Mattie Moring as she is in my family tree. I found Walter Carden's date of death by finding his grave on www.findagrave.com. Apparently he died in 1896. His son is also recorded as Walter "Clay" Carden and you will find his gravesite on that site as well. By the way, Mattie's father was Henry Clay Moring. I know this isn't much, but hope it helps.
