Afterthought:

Sylvia, I have this on John Moring, Sr and wife, Nancy "Anne" Lane. John born abt 1764 Surry Co NC; died 21 Sep 1844 in Chatham Co NC.
From the family research of Arno Ernst Edward Behr b 1846, John was a Revolutionary soldier for 6 months and 10 days, in Captain Wilson's Company of the regiment commanded by Captain Blount, who was present at Lord Cornwallis' surrender.

"Chatham County, North Carolina: History and Genealogy"
John Moring (Mooring) Pension File S7239, was age 75 in the 1840 military census. " Statement for pension application dated: 12 Nov 1832 Chatham Co., NC He is a resident of Chatham Co., NC and 68 years of age. He was born in Surry Co., VA in the year 1764. He was living in Surry Co., VA in Dec of 1780 when he was drafted in the militia. He resided in his native county of Surry Co., VA until the year 1805 when he removed to Chatham Co., NC where he has lived ever since."
"Letter requesting information in file dated: 31 Jan 1938 (1936?) He is enlisted in April 1781, and served seven months as a private in Captains William Wilson’s, Lemuel Cocke’s and Josiah Wilson’s Companies, Col. Blount’s VA Regt and was in the siege of Yorktown and at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis. He died 21 Sept 1844, the place is not stated. In 1832, Elizabeth Cocks, the soldier’s sister, was living in Surry Co., VA and her age was not shown. In 1832, on John Cocks (Cox), upwards of 63 years of age, was residing in Surry Co., VA."

Some believe the parents of John Moring to be Henry Moring and Ann Judkins of Surry Co VA. Source: Ray@gurganus.org

I believe this line goes back to John Moring who married Jane White in VA circa 1640. In 1666 a John Mooring received a royal land grant for land in Surry Co VA. Morings from this line removed to Chatham Co NC from VA.

Children of Henry Moring and Ann Judkins are thought to have been, William, Nancy and John.
