Looking for George Morgan in Savannah circa 1800

George W. Morgan was born in England or Scotland around 1770 or 1773 and spent most of his adult life in Haddam, CT. He married Anice Chapman there in 1800, but shortly thereafter appears to have moved to Savannah, where his first child Mary Ann was born in 1801. By 1803 when the next child was born, he was back in Connecticut. I have not been able to find any reference to George in CT prior to his marriage in 1800, so I am wondering if he may have lived in Georgia with family prior to marrying. In some genealogies he is called "Captain" George Morgan, but I have been unable to find any sources for that information. Has anyone stumbled across George in their research?
Thanks in advance,
Emily
