This is very interesting to know you are living in Portsmonth VA. One of the early William Morgan's came to Elizabth City in 1624 on the ship "The Starr". William's wife was Sybil Brooks and they are listed on a role call after an Indian attact. They were about 30 years old and Elizabeth City is now Portsmouth. There must be lots of information on this family in the Genealogy Library in this town. When I was a younng girl about 21, my husband ship the Saratoga was in dry dock at the ship yards in Portmonth and I spent some time there and loved the old Architecture in that town, but I never knew the history at that time. I hope to return some day. I live in Oklahoma and could welcome some of the cool sea breeze now as it is very hot here.
My cousin and I are going to go to Wales to visit the Morgan ancestral home there and I want to learn all I can before I go. I will look up your town and see if it is close by.
The Morgan family is very interesting line and I think most in America did come from Wales. We dont have any Hughes in our line but I did work for Hughes Space and Communication in LA. Maybe Howard Hughes was related to your line?
