Fellow/Gal Morgans of Coosa County AL Researchers (this will be LONG)
I am working on something that I'd like to pass by you to see if any of you have run across any of this information in your research.
As we all know the whereabouts of James Milton Morgan and Sarah Jane Carter have remained a mystery to most of us - what we've had to go on has largely been Aunt Sallie's story, which I think is safe to assume, is made up of pieces of family history and lore passed on to her by her father, James Thomas Morgan, with Knighton history and lore passed on by her mother, Margaret Viola Knighton.
Where the story has begun to unravel for most of us, I'm sure, is with the names of James Thomas' parents and I think most, if not all of us, have that straightened out by now because of various bits and pieces we've gleaned from a variety of sources, starting with the 1860 census of the Southern Division of Alabama.
Then another piece of Sallie's story began to unravel for me with the discovery of the Arlington Journal's newspaper article of 1930 (posted on my blog) in which J.T. states that he came to Texas with his step-father in 1869, arriving by train and boat in Galveston, TX, before moving into Comanche County and the West Texas Frontier, where he was basically abandoned (at least that's what it sounds like to me) at the age of 13 to fend for himself and fight the Comanches.
To read the rest of this LONG and DETAILED exploration of what happened to Sarah Jane Carter Morgan of Coosa County, AL, please see the complete article on the Morgan-Knighton Kith 'n Kin blog at http://www.morganvirtualreunion.com/blog/?itemid=381http://www.morganvirtualreunion.com/blog/?itemid=381
