Interesting 1910 obituary
I was going thru a box of things that I inherited from my grandfather many years ago. I found some old newspapers and one in particular is rather interesting. It was The Washington Reporter (Washington PA) published Aug 15, 1938 but was a special anniversary edition and it reprinted some articles from much older papers. There was one obituary from 1910 that I wanted to share. Hopefully it is someone's ancestor. "Death of Old Slave - Mrs. Margaret McCorby, aged 111, died June 16, 1910, in Cannonsburg. She was the oldest resident of Washington County, and in fact, the oldest of whom we have any record. The records showed that she was born a slave on the Col. George Morgan farm, at Morganza, in July 1799. For many years she was a maid and nurse in the Morgan family. She was known as "Aunt Margaret" and was the very last of the Morgan slaves."
