FWIW-
As soon as I posted that, I needed to re-edit it. Its not Ezekiel I meant to say (I had that namne on my mind), but rather Zachary William that's being contracted to create Zaquill. At least, that really was what I meant to say at the time.
A major source of nicknames for people of british descent (mmeaning native English speakers be they English, Scot, Welsh, or Irish, and later American & Australian) are forms form of wordplay that includes "rhymeslang". Zaquill's not a rhymeslang name (Mary==Molly==Polly is rhymeslang) but does show people's love of wordplay.
I've got a guy named John whom a lot of people have been claiming has a middle name of Jackson. But Jackson wasn't really a popular middle name until Andrew Jackson became known for his exploits and patriotism.
But John's brother William was known as "Jack's Bill"
(which is pretty close to Zaquill now that I think about it); the father of both William and John was also a John but in this family the seniormost John always seems to be known as Jack. After thinking about it for a few weeks, I realized that John Jr. didn't have a middle name, but rather a nickname: "Jack's son".
In fact, _that right there_ (back a bit further in time) is the origin of the surname, Jackson.
Back to Zaquill, you said:
> Actually, there is an araboc name which is spelled Zakiul... somehow....
Ezekiel is a Hebrew name, but probably derives from an earlier Aramaic name; Arabic and Hebrew alive both derive from the earlier Aramaic language.
Turns out "Haskel(l)" is an English variation of Ezekiel.
And it sounds a lot like Zaquill.
Ultimately, we will have to wait until we get to Heaven so we can ask the person who started the first usage....
