I have just started to investigate the Morgans of Williamstown. My own Morgan family probably descends from Owen Morgan born Apr 20 1870 in Pollagh, Williamstown. He was the son of James Morgan and Mary Dolan.
The surname Morgan has a native origin in the O'Morgans of Ui Maine (the surname in modern Irish is O’Muireagain) who originally held land on the Westmeath-Offaly border. However they where displaced and scatter; their relatives the Foxes held on to the ancestral lands.
On a side note I read that Williamstown was created in the early 1800s by William McDermott. Plus I understand that their is a chapter on the subject in "Irish villages: studies in local history" - Kilnalag to Williamstown, north county Galway, 1820-1850 by Maeve Mulryan-Moloney
