Brett,I have probably 5 deeds from chatham Co of John Morgan selling property in Chatham co.This was between 1795 and 1800.In all of the deeds they state that John Morgan of Orange Co NC selling land in Chatham Co on Cub Creek.Unfortunately these deeds along with all of my genealogy is packed away in boxes which I cannot get to.I got these deeds when I went to Chatham Co NC looking for the deed records of Charles Morgan (which I also found). The only land that sold was that land which lay in Chatham Co. I also have all the probate records which relate to Mark Morgan. His inventory of his estate ( which was enormous) and his bill of sale which shows clearly that family members including son John purchasing the inventory.John had a son Solomon who was probably mentally retarded and was assigned a guardian. His son Mark (all this is from memory) never married and left his estate to his nephews.Mark Morgan's son's left land to the state of NC for the University of NC amoung several men from Orange Co., and Solomon Morgan and his wife are buried on that land.I have the newspaper article about this. When I get moved in about a month I pull out all of my records on the Mark Morgan family.I originally thought that Mark Morgan and my Charles Morgan were related but now I do not think so.I can find no relationship between the 2 to this date.I suspect that my Charles Morgan may have been Quakerat some time.He had a mill on the Haw River and was somehow connected to the Stewarts and the Brewers.
I think they did not have a lot of money.Mark Morgan was one of the wealtiest men in Orange Co and he and his son John were one of the largest slave owners and the laargest land owners.I have plat maps of the area and they owned a lot of land.As soon as I get moved I will share what I have. Thanks and hope this helps.Janet Morgan Brown
