Morgans in Indiana and Illinois prior to 1840
I just found out that my actual surname is Morgan. My birth name is Freeman. My father told me that his mother had told him when he was a child that his grandfather had changed his name but never told her what his real name was. I took the DNA test to see what Freeman I would match with and lo and behold I did not match with any Freemans in their data base, if fact I was very far from any match and my haplogroup (ancestoral background) was totaly different than any other Freeman. However, I did match on the 25 marker test 23/25 with Terry Morgan proving that my real surname is Morgan and proving that my greatfather had changed his name. He died taking this secret to his grave. Now the mystery has been solved.
My task now is to find my Morgan family prior to him changing his name.
This is what I have on him:
John Henry Freeman was the name he went by from at least the time of his marriage which took place on 2 Nov. 1884 in Poplar Bluff, Butler County, Missouri. He maried Ellen Eastwood.
John Henry (Freeman) Morgan was born May 1840 or 1842 in Indiana or Illinois. His father's name may have been Thomas according to his death certificate.
If anyone has Morgans in Indiana or Illinois prior to 1840 or 1842 I would appreciate very much if you would share your info with me.
Thanks
Tim
