Hello, Shirley.Yes, I can trace my line through a John Morey but my John Morey appears in my direct line back in 1684 in Bristol, RI.About the time frame that you refer, I do have a John Jr, son of Linsford Morey, born in 1750 in Lebanon, CT and dying in 1812 in Quebec, Stanstead, Canada.Another John is the son of Solomon Morey (my granfather 7 generations back) but he's born in Grafton County, Orford, NH and to the best of my knowledge, dies in Fairlee, VT (making the trip there next week to research this).
I do know that part of the family moves from NH/VT (the two towns they lived in are just apart from each other by a river) to the North in Canada. There is speculation they are Loyalist, but many of them serve prominently during the American Revolutionary War and the move comes after the Revolution from what I can see so I'm not sure that's accurate. What I do know is that my records of the family born in Canada are much less complete and your John might be part of that the family tree.
It's funny that my maiden name of Marshall appears in your line.I have yet to do alot of research on that part of my genealogy (another family member has been working that) so we might find that we're related along a totally different line!
