Major Holland Alexander Morelock, 60, TN, obituary
Major Holland Alexander Morelock, 60 Ret., of Johnson
City, passed away on July 11, 2008, at the Johnson City
Medical Center, after a long and courageous battle with
cancer. Born October 31, 1947 in Greeneville, Greene Co
TN, he was the son of the late Luther and Jennie Paxton
Morelock.
He was a member of Sunset Free Will Baptist Church in Roan
Mountain, TN.
Holland was a graduate of the Medical College in Augusta,
GA where he completed the Physician’s Assistant Program.
He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a Physician’s
Assistant, both in Greeneville with Dr. Robert A. Cooper
and in Johnson City with the physicians of Johnson City
Internal Medicine and Dr. Robert Allen of the Castle
Clinic.
Holland served his country with pride. He began his
military service in the U.S. Air Force as a military
policeman and dog handler, serving in Udorn, Thailand
during the Vietnam War. He later retired from the TN Army
National Guard 2/278th Armored Calvary Regiment.
He enjoyed antique collecting.
Holland was a kind, compassionate man with a heart full of
love. He was happiest when he was serving others. Holland
left behind a wife and family that he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a
brother, Joe Curtis 'J.C.' Morelock.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Morelock of Johnson
City; step-daughter, Megan and husband Charles 'Bo' Slagle;
step-son, Joshua Crumley and fiancé Lynne Freeman; sisters,
Carolyn Singleton and husband Tim and Dianne Hughes and
husband Arnold; brothers, John Morelock and wife Linda,
Don Morelock and wife Vena, and Dedrick Morelock and wife
Freda. Holland was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his
first grandchild, Hunter Remington Slagle.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday,
July 16, 2008 at 8 p.m. at Tetrick Funeral Services with
Rev. Gary Whitehead and Rev. Terry Richardson officiating.
Music will be provided by Jason Gouge and Gina Baines. The
family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the
service. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July
17, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active
pallbearers will be David Bearden, Jeff Odom, Danny Cox,
Charles L. Baines, Myron McAmis and Charles 'Bo' Slagle.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Agnes Hamati and the staff
of the VA Medical Center, Dr. Robert Allen and the staff of
the Castle Clinic, Aaron Hopson, Jared Hopson, Ben Morelock,
John Morelock, Jr., Dr. Brooks Morelock and Charles R.
Baines. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at
1:15 p.m. to go in procession.
