Nancy Shell was born in Ross County, Ohio, November 21, 1830, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Stratton, of Bethany, Mo., December 17, 1914, being at her death 84 years and 26 days of age. She was married to Thornton S. Moreland July 24, 1857, who preceded her to the better land some eight years ago.
To this union were born eight children, six of whom are still living: Mary Stratton, Bethany, Mo.; Emaline Harvey, Linneus, Mo.; Melvine Craig, Saline, Mo.; Martha McGuffin, Purden, Mo.; Jane Johnson, Leon, Ia.; Charles Moreland, Decatursville, Mo.
Grandma (as she was better known) united with the Church of Christ at East Eden about fifteen years ago and during the remaining years of her life lived a true Christian. She had been a sufferer for the past two years with that dreaded disease, cancer, which caused her death. Besides her children she leaves a stepson, a number of grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her departure.
The funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Will Johnson, at 10 o'clock, Sunday morning, conducted by William J. Campbell, of Davis City, Evangelist Church of Christ, after which her body was laid to rest beside that of her husband in the Chastain Cemetery.
