Hi Ann,
De La Durantaye is as the French people of Canada call a 'Dit" name or alias as we would call it. There are other Dit names associated with Morel. Most French/Canadian names in Canada have Dit names. If you contact The French/American Geneological Society in Woonsocket, R.I they can furnish you with a list of Dit names associated with
French names. This list is very important for
anyone doing French/Canadian research. My grandmother,'s maiden name was Morel under the Dit De La durentaye. I won't get into the lengthy reason for the Dit names. The French/Amercan Society can better explain it.
I researched my grandmother all the way back to France and if I didn't learn about the Dit name list I would have run into a wall in my research. Her mother's (my greatgrandmother) name was Belleville. When I researched back on this name it went from Belleville to the Dit name Barth. If I can be of any help please contact me via email.
