The following is an exerpt of an article, Rockport History, that appeared in Heritage (Hot Spring Genealogical Society) magazine in 1981 (vol. 8, page 113)

"Dr. W.T. Morehad was an early resident of Rockport. A native of Washington, Ark., where he was born in 1818, he arrived in June, 1840, and resided at the home of Dr. Phisick, who aided him in his study of medicine. Dr. Phisick had an exceptionally fine library. In July, 1840, Dr. Morehead started a school in Blakeley's Creek. At the close of the term he started freighting goods and provisions from Little Rock and Rockport by ox wagon. This was the real beginning of his business career. In 1842 he married Mrs. Nancy Cates and entered 40 acres, where he lived, except for 3 years spent in Hot Springs, practicing medicine. He was appointed constable in 1841 and in 1844 was named justice of peace. He became county judge in 1846, serving two terms, in 1851 and 1852 he was deputy sheriff and in 1871 he was appointed postmaster by President Grant, serving for five years. He was elected county and probate judge in 1876 and served two terms. He was appointed frequently by the governor as special judge to sit on important cases. Dr. Morehead was an exceptionally good hunter, and it is said that he killed 200 bears in his lifetime."

This biography of Dr. William T. Morehead suggests he was a resident of Rockport. The evidence suggests that he lived much of his life in Friendship, AR. It also indicates that he was a native of Washington, AR, and that he was born there. Census records indicate he was born in Kentucky. His marriage to Nancy Cates ended in the early 1860s, and he subsequently married Jennie Smith, with whom he had another family.
