>>> Friendship. What was it like?
Very pretty. It's a little bit like Brisbane. The Ouachita River flows through there.Hilly.Lots of vegetation.Recreation centered on the river. The river bottom presents a haunting image of days of old.
>>>I remember him talking about William (Tee), and what a >>>character he was
He still is a character. He and his wife, Juanita (Nita), were great hosts.I called them from a Shell station on a Sunday afternoon, and they just invited me on over.Very friendly.Good folks.
>>>but I can't remember exactly how he is related.
He descends from William T.'s 2nd marriage to Jennie Smith.
I can't find my notes on his line right at the moment.
>>>Yes, indeed my grandfather wrote a book...My mom might >>have a copy though, I'll see if I can get her to find it.
I would like to see that.I'll be down close to Houston next weekend. If she has it I can maybe copy it.
>>>Whoops...I actually just looked at my family tree and Andrew is my ggggrandfather . . . confusing
I get caught in that quite often. One little "g" makes a big difference.
>>> where in Kentucky William T. Morehead was from? Or by chance who his parents were? I seem to be stuck there.
I'm not sure about that. One researcher says he thought that he assumed the last name of a guardian.I don't have the data for that.I have been looking at the possibility that he was the underage son mentioned in the will of Armistead Morehead in 1826 in Muhlenburg Co. KY.Thanks for the lead about James Turner Morehead. I'll check on that. His will should be posted on the web.
>> Rose A. Cook (Andrew J.'s wife) and where she came from? >>I had always been told that she was a Cherokee
I have not found her family, but I haven't really looked.
My mother always said that there was Native American blood in our line. That's one of the things that I have been looking for as well.Perhaps Rose is the one.Andrew J. does not have a wife buried next to him.His 2nd wife, Ella, is buried behind him.She apparently married again after Andrew passed away.
OBTW, these are the Moreheads buried in Friendship
William T. & Jennie - together
Andrew J.
Ella Wooley (Andrew's 2nd wife)
Ruby (James's daughter who drowned in Ouachita River)
Susie (James's daughter)
James T.
Andy W. and Sallie
Samuel T. and Francis
John and Emma(I assume they're yours)
Johnnie
Bennie
Mable Holley (John and Emma's daughter?)
Two infants - one no name d. 1896, daughter John & Emma
------------- Jesse d. 1898, parents not shown
>>>Were you born in Louisiana or Texas?
My Dad was b./LA. My Mom said she was born in Hot Springs, but I suspect she was born down near Friendship. I was born in Norfolk, VA.My Dad went in the Navy in WWII and made a career out of it.All my relatives live around Monroe, LA. Some of the Moreheads moved down around Ferriday, LA.Both Monroe and Friendship are on the Ouachita.I assume my grandfather moved down to Monroe via the river. He was a logger and a mule skinner.
>> Well, it's great to make the connection with you.
Same here. It's nice to meet cousins.
>>>I would really appreciate any info you have on William T.
William T. was quite the pioneer. He was the "first" in a lot of categories: first postmaster in Friendship and first physician in that neck of the woods. He may have established the first school and the first hauling company. He later became a judge. There is an indication that he was a delegate to the Arkansas constitutional convention.
I have William T.'s obituary.I'll post it as soon as I get some time in the next few days.I also have a lot of miscellaneous notes that might be of use to you.I assume you already have all the census data.
Take care,Dale
P.S. My father visited Brisbane during WWII, and I visited there briefly in 1987 on the way to Hamilton Island.
