Hi Dale!

That's lovely you went to Friendship. What was is like? I went there as a child to visit relatives, but I don't remember much about it, and probably wasn't very interested at the time. My grandfather (Lester Morehead), still loves Arkansas and talks about it constantly! I remember him talking about William (Tee), and what a character he was, but I can't remember exactly how he is related.

Yes, indeed my grandfather wrote a book, a novel. It was about 20+ years ago now...it was historical fiction called, The Paleface's Necklace. It wasn't exactly a history of our family, but it did feature some of our family members in it, mostly it centered on William T. Morehead. I haven't read it since I was a teenager, so I can't remember many details. I live in Australia now, and I didn't bring many books with me. My mom might have a copy though, I'll see if I can get her to find it.

So, your gggrandfather is also Andrew? That makes us fairly closely related. Does that make us 2nd or 3rd cousins? I'm not sure how that works.

Whoops...I actually just looked at my family tree and Andrew is my ggggrandfather (starts to get confusing with alll the great great great's). His son John R. (Samuel's little brother) was my gggrandfather, and then his son Hugh was my ggrandfather, and then there is Lester, and so forth...

Have you been able to track down where in Kentucky William T. Morehead was from? Or by chance who his parents were? I seem to be stuck there. My grandfather always told me that he (William T.) was related to a Governor of Kentucky (I'm assuming he must mean James Turner Morehead), but I haven't been able to find anything that substantiates that claim (although it is quite possibly true).

Also, do you know anything about Rose A. Cook (Andrew J.'s wife) and where she came from? I had always been told that she was a Cherokee, but on the documentation I have found, her race is listed as White, and her parents are listed as being from Ireland (I have no idea what their names are).

Were you born in Louisiana or Texas? I think I mentioned that my grandfather moved to Houston in the 40's, and then pretty much his entire family (mother, father and 2 sisters also followed)...the only one who stayed behind was his brother Harold (now deceased). Although, Harold moved to Little Rock (I believe). So, there was no one left from my direct family in Friendship. My grandfather has made yearly trips to Arkansas until the last few years, as he is now in his 80's and finding the drive to be too difficult.

Well, it's great to make the connection with you. Hope I haven't asked too many questions...I would really appreciate any info you have on William T.

Take care.

Gwen (in Brisbane, Australia)
