AUCHMUTY from Scotland - as early as 1296 - See MOODY Ydna project too
Some of you here may want to try to obtain a copy of George F. Black's - The Surnames of Scotland first publ. in 1946, reprinted in 1999 and again in 2004, as it has a fairly good sized paragraph about the surname Auchmuty being in Ulster in 1610 but that they were from Scotland and states that a descendant settled in Co. Longford, IRE.
The name goes back in Scotland to 1296 and was spelled in Numerous and very different ways back then....Admulti/Admowtie etc. for example.
Also our MOODY Ydna Surname Project recently had 2 exact matching men one surnamed MOODY whose family he felt came from Ireland to PA and another surnamed MOOTY whose family came from VA to SC I believe in the 1660's.
I'm not sure about this, but a Google Search or just visit the MOODY board here for links to the webpage, should get you there to see the Ydna results if you haven't already.
They are the ones shaded in Red towards the bottom of the page.
I hope this is helpful.
