John Bissett, Hi John, Whilst searching the internet for 'Moores, Ancoats', I came across your posted reply (dated April 2008) on a genealogy site, regarding James Moores. I have several links to a Moores family in Ancoats and believe that your great great grandfather James was possibly my 3xgreat uncle. James I believe was the son of Edward Moores and Elizabeth Barclay. Edward and Elizabeth had several children; Sarah Ann b circa 1841 James b circa 1844 William b circa 1846 Elizabeth b circa 1851 Emanuel b circa 1853 There are also IGI references to a Thomas, Walter, Martha and John. Edward was born circa 1810 in Yorkshire and is often described as a marine store dealer. Elizabeth circa 1814. Sarah Ann and Elizabeth married the brothers John and Patrick Devine. The 1861 census shows Edward and his family living at 11 Hayes Street, at number 9 are the recently married couple Sarah and John Devine. It is through Sarah and James that I am related. Sarah's sister Elizabeth died just a couple of years after marrying Patrick. Trade directories 1911 and 1920 list a James Moores living on Hayes Street, initially as a Marine Store dealer then as a Metal Merchant. I have much more on this Moores family but wanted to give you this information just to see if this is a likely link. Look forward to your reply, Chris Hall Notify Administrator about this message?
