Jo ,
Bad news...One of our Jessup's, my father, Robert Byrne Jessup, died last night.
Bob was a direct decendant of William Sonair, AKA Jessup, down through the line of Solomon P.Jessup of Oklahoma (civil war vet).He was the grandson of Daniel Alva Jessup, and the son of Gerald Entzminger Jessup.Dad was
born on January 4th, 1942.Dad died on April 7, 2002, at approximately 6:50pm, aged 60.Funeral arrangements are pending, but a viewing will most likely be Thursday or Friday, April 11th or 12th, followed the next day by a
church service.DeVol Funeral Home of Gaithersburg Maryland is handling the arrangments, and they will be advertised in the Washington Post Metro Section (obituaries) probably Wednesday or Thursday. That can be viewed at http://www.washingtonpost.comhttp://www.washingtonpost.com.
Dad always wanted to be cremated, so after the traditional funeral and viewing, we'll probably go that route.Since he was a U.S.Marine for 6 years, if he is cremated, his ashes can be interred at Arlington National Cemetary. No final plans have been decided, but we're leaning that way.
I know you all have an excellent email system for all the Jessup's, and dad's family was probably never that close to many of the other Jessup's around the country, but I thought everyone might like to know.
Dad was the best father and husband and grandfather anyone could ever ask for. That right there should be enough of an obituary for anyone, but dad was so much more.
He's survived by his wife Caroline Mary Jessup, his three children William Gerald Jessup (me), Richard Mulroe Jessup, and Dana Elizabeth Jessup, and his grandchildren Craig Byrne Jessup (4), Richard Patrick Jessup (2), Alyssa
Jessup (5), Haley Simone Jessup (4), and Aiden Jessup (6 months). He is also survived by his brothers Michael Jessup and Richard Jessup, and his mother, Doris Skinner Jessup (Mrs.Gerald Entzminger Jessup), and more friends than a man could count.
He was greatly loved, a gentle giant among men, a heart the size of the world.
I will write in a day with funeral arrangements. If you would be so kind as to broadcast this email to the Jessup family, I'd greatly appreciate it.
God bless you all and take care.-Bill Jessup, Gaithersburg, Maryland.
