Wanda,Have you heard the saying, "the dificult takes a day,the impossible takes a little longer?"I went to Chatham, Va. today and found the marriage record for Otey.Otey Moorefield, age 27 and Nannie Simpson, age 22, were married in Gretna, Va. on 3-28-1925.He was son of Tom and Susie Moorefield and she was daughter of Ulam and Pearl Simpson. The marriage was performed by J.D. Kesler.Tom and Susie were William Thomas Moorefield, Jr.and Susan J. Mayhew.Tom was born about 1847 in Pitt. Co. and according to his grandson, Raleigh Moorefield of the Cody area of Halifax Co.,was stuck by lightening and died in 1899.He and Susie were married in Pitt. co. on 3-18-1880.They had seven children,I think Otey was the next to last. His siblings were Silas Carrington, William Monroe, Jip Coleman, Giles A., Millard Taylor, and Ernest Maude. Tom was the son of William Thomas Moorefield, Sr. who was born in Halifax Co.,sometime around 1818.William married Elizabeth S. Powell on 1-23-1836.She was daughter of Mary Powell, who signed her marriage bond. The marriage bond was also signed by John W. Moorefield as William's father.I do not know the name of John W.'s parents or wife.Raleigh Carrington Morefield, son of Silas, knew Otey and can be reached at 434 349-3319.I have visited with Raleigh and Jeraline several times and I know he would love to hear from you.By the way,we are having a Moorefield reunion in Danville on Sunday,April 7.Let me know here if you can come and I will give you details,or my number is 276 638-6001.Bill Moorefield in Martinsville, Va.
